Alfred K. Parker, age 84, of Newport, passed away on Sunday, April 8, 2007, at Baptist Hospital of Cocke County, after a lengthy illness.
Alfred and his late wife Lucille were noted Gospel Music Singers. They traveled throughout this region singing and witnessing for the Lord, and sang at countless funerals throughout the years. Alfred served as Deacon and taught the Men’s Sunday School Class at Dutch Bottoms Church for many years. Alfred worked as a carpenter for 40 years and later retired from Newport Utilities. He as also an avid hunter.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Lucille France Parker; daughter, Deloris Parker Buckner; infant daughter, Joyce; son Kenny Parker; parents, Dave and Mary Parker; sister Nettie Parker, Anna Lee Morefield, Juanita Parker all of Newport; and brother, Lee Roy Parker, Grand Rapids, Mich.
Survivors include his wife, Mary Parker, who was very devoted to him and gave him exceptional care during his illness; son, Ronald Parker; step-mother, Rachel Parker; step-sons and daughters-in-law, Mitchell and Angela Gorrell, of Parrottsville, Jimmy and Carol Gorrell of Newport, Roger and Zana Gorrell of Sevierville; and step-daughter and son-in-law, Kathy and Jerry Miezier of Parma, Ohio; brothers and sisters-in-law, John and Barbara Parker, Bobby and Jean Parker all of Parrottsville, Billy and Jolene Parker of Newport; sister and brother-in-law, Patricia and Wayne O’Neil of Newport, Beulah Parker of Grand Rapids, Mich.,; brother-in-law, Johnny Morefield of Newport; grandchildren and their spouses, Michael and Tracy Miller, Angie and Steve Stewart of Newport, Kelly and T.C. Faulconer of Sevierville, and Andy Parker of Stuttgart Germany; six step grandchildren; eleven great-grandchildren; seven step great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; and special friends Ralph and Carolyn Shelton.
Funeral services will be held 8:00 pm, Tuesday, April 10, 2007 in Manes Funeral Home Chapel, with Rev. Manson Lee and Rev. Ray Wiley officiating. Burial will be held 11:00 am, Wednesday, April 11, 2007 in Dutch Bottoms Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 5-8 pm Tuesday at Manes funeral home prior to the funeral services.
