Hurley B. "Tennessee" Stinson, 84, 1136 Stanley Ave. died Thursday June 3, 2004, in the Chambersburg Hospital after an illness of a few months.
Born September 18, 1919 in Del Rio, Tenn. he was the son of the late Isham G. and Jessie Mae Turner Stinson.
He was a member of Corpus Christi Catholic Church and the Knights of Columbus.
A corporal in the US Army, he served as a medic in the 131st Hospital in England during W.W. II and worked in the CCC.
In his early life he raised tobacco in Tennessee.
Moving to Waynesboro in 1946, he worked in various garages in the area before working over 20 years at L.E.A.D. from which he retired.
His memberships include the Charles Nitterhouse Post #1599 V.F.W., Burt J. Asper Post #46 American Legion, NARFE, AARP, and the PA Sheriff's Association.
Surviving are his wife, Blanche Memmi Stinson; two daughters, Judith Ellen Long and Patricia Ann Kugler both of Waynesboro; grandchildren, Kelly Kugler, Lisa Kinley, Jeffrey Long, Bryan Long; great-grandchildren, Rachael Kinley, Alex Long, Annananci Long; and two sisters, Aletha Roberts, Greenville, S.C., and Esther Ann (Mrs. Leon) Brown, Greeneville, Tenn.
He was preceded in death by brothers, Luther, Cecil, Geter, Paul, and sisters Lucy Self, Juanita Center, and Etta Mae Gibbs.
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 11 a.m. Monday June 7, 2004 from the Corpus Christi Catholic Church with Rev. Fr. James R. O'Brien as celebrant. Burial will be in Corpus Christi Cemetery.
Visitation will be Sunday evening from 6-8 p.m. in the Robert G. Sellers Funeral Home with the Prayer service at 8 p.m. and one half hour prior to the service on Monday at the funeral home.
Members of the Charles Nitterhouse Post #1599 VFW Honor Guard will conduct graveside military honors.
