Edward (E.L.) Leslie Self , age 86, was born on April 25, 1925 in Haskell, Texas and died peacefully on July 16, 2011 in Conroe, Texas. Ed lived most of his life in the great State of Texas and was a member of Pipefitters Local 211 since 1952, where he used his skills in various jobs including NASA and the University of Texas Medical Center from which he retired. Ed was a 50+ year member of Shriners International, a 53 year member of The American Legion, a 50+ year member of the Scottish Rite of Freemasonry 32nd degree and a Master Mason for more than 50 years at The Grand Lodge of Texas. Ed was a veteran of World War II serving in the U. S. Marine Corps. But most of all, Ed was a family man. Married to Angelina Self for 58 years, he raised five children and had 15 grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren with another 2 on the way. He loved to golf, fish and retell stories of his wonderful life. He was preceded in death by his parents, Fleet and Dessie Self , and his loving son, Edward Michael Self . He is survived by the love of his life, Ange, and his four children, Phil Self of Oregon, Bob Self (Jeanne) of Katy, Cherrie Haugh (Brian) of Frisco and Ken Self (Wendi) of Frisco, his grandchildren and his great grandchildren.
An evening visitation will be held on Tuesday, July 19, 2011 from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Cashner Funeral Home. The funeral service will be held at the Cashner Colonial Chapel on Wednesday, July 20, 2011 at 12:30 p.m. with Pastor Omar Garcia officiating. Entombment in Garden Park Cemetery's Chapel in the Park Mausoleum will follow. Pallbearers will be Earl Dauzat, Rick Poston, Scott Marshall, Casey Zboril, Chris Trom and Doug Taylor.
