Reverend Tipton was the founder and pastor of Chapel View Baptist Church from 1974 -1985. Preceded in death by his parents, Lawrence H. Tipton and Helen Tipton Lumpkin; step-father, Fletcher Lumpkin; and sister, Jean Kelty. He is survived by his wife, Edna Tipton of Knoxville; sons and daughters-in-law, Dan and Patricia Tipton and Dru and Linda Tipton; daughters and sons-in-law, Donna and Lee Bench and Kim Smith; daughter-in-law, Sharon Wright; 14 grandchildren; 6 great-grandchildren; brother, Ira Fletcher Lumpkin, Jr.; sisters, Margaret Branum and Jewel Johnson; special nephews, Marty Gammon; sister-in-law, Faye Rose; several nieces, nephews, aunts, and uncles. A funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday at Rose Mortuary Broadway Chapel with Reverend David Cloud officiating. Interment will follow in New Gray Cemetery.
