TIPTON, EDNA J. - age 76, of Knoxville, passed away peacefully at 5:21 a.m. Saturday morning, August 22, 2009 at her North Knoxville home. Mrs. Tipton was preceded in death by her husband of 60 years, Reverend Luther H. Tipton; parents, Dolphus (Doc) and Ruche Legg; sisters, Ruby Legg, Stella Halls, Bernice Sellers, Bonnie Hill and Paulette Legg. She is survived by her children and their spouses, Dan and Patricia Tipton, Dru Tipton, Donna and Lee Bench and Kim Smith; and a daughter-in-law, Sharon Wright. Mrs. Tipton had the joy of 14 grandchildren, 6 great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews; sisters-in-law, Margaret Brannum and Jewel Johnson; and a brother-in-law, Reverend Ira Lumpkin. A funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Monday at Rose Mortuary Broadway Chapel with Reverend David Mitchell and Reverend Ira F. Lumpkin, Jr. officiating. Interment will follow in New Gray Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Daniel S. Tipton, Joshua Tipton, Quinton Tipton, Aaron Smith, Charles Graham and Erik Howard.
