UNDERWOOD, BENJAMIN B. "BEN" - age 87 of Knoxville, died suddenly Tuesday, March 12, 2002. He was a member of Chilhowee Hills Baptist Church where he served as a Deacon for many years and a member of the Willing Workers Sunday School Class. He retired from the United States Postal Service with over 40 years of service. An Army Veteran of W.W.II., he retired from the Army Reserve as a Warrant Officer, with over 30 years of service. Mr. Underwood was an avid Braves Fan and had earlier coached football and softball for many years. Survivors: wife of 57 years, Kathleen Ray Underwood; son and daughter-in-law, Steve and Kathi Underwood of Woodstock, GA; daughter, Benita Davis of Knoxville; grandchildren, Greg Caldwell and wife Lisa, Traci Hejna and husband Sean, Jason Underwood, Josh Underwood, Maria Underwood, Kristen Osborne and husband James, and Lacy Raymond; great granddaughters, Allison Hejna and Kristin Hejna; great grandson, Gavin Osborne; sister, Mildred Catlett of Knoxville; several nieces and nephews. Funeral service will be held 7:30 p.m. Friday at Rose Mortuary Broadway Chapel with Rev. Tony Crisp officiating. Family and friends will meet at 10:45 a.m. Saturday at Lynnhurst Cemetery for an 11:00 a.m. interment service with full Military Honors provided by Volunteer State Veterans Honor Guard. Honorary pallbearers: Willing Works Sunday School Class and the Deacons of Chilhowee Hills Baptist Church. The family will receive friends 6-7 p.m. Friday at Rose Mortuary Broadway Chapel.
