Glen D. Leake, born on July 2, 1923, in Knoxville, Tenn., passed away on January 11, 2012. He retired from the United States Air Force on February 1, 1964, after serving in World War II, Korea and Vietnam. He was stationed at Nellis Air Force Base in Las Vegas, Nevada. He worked for First National Bank and Valley Bank of Nevada for 21 years and retired in 1985. Glen was preceded in death by his wife, Anna Louise (Hitch) Leake; brothers, Floyd and Richard; sister, Anna Trotter; son-in-law, Ace Goodwin; and his grandmother, Lucy Goddard; and grandson, Aaron Leake. Glen and Floyd were raised by their grandparents, Grant and Lucy Goddard, during the depression on a farm on Martin Mill Pike in South Knoxville. Glen graduated from Young High School in 1948. He worked for Fulton Syphon Co. in Knoxville for a year in the machine shop making anti-aircraft projectiles for the Navy. He was inducted into the U.S. Air Force in 1943 and was sent to Caserta, Italy, and assigned to the Mediterranean Allied Air Force working in Telecommunications. He returned home in December 1945. He re-enlisted and was assigned to Headquarters Command USAF in Washington, D.C., for nine years. In 1955, he was selected by the Pentagon for a special duty assignment in Naples, Italy, working for NATO. He served three years with his family in Naples working at Headquarters Air South. He and his family returned home in 1958, and was assigned to Nellis Air Base in Las Vegas, Nev., where he retired in 1964. Sgt. Leake’s awards and decorations include the Good Conduct Metal Clasp-C Silver with one loop, American Defense Service Medal, American Campaign Medal, World War II Victory Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Air Force Longevity Service Award Ribbon with four bronze oak leaf clusters and the European-African-Middle Eastern Campaign Medal with one bronze star. Glen is survived by his sister, Reva Phillips of Guntersville, Ala.; sons, Jim of Pittsburg Calif., Wayne and wife Tammy of North Las Vegas Nev., Mark and wife Stacey of Henderson, Nev., daughter, Glenda Goodwin of Dallas, Texas; granddaughters, Christine Leake of Pittsburg, Calif., and Cathy Leake of Las Vegas, Nev., Mallory, Amanda, Lauren of Henderson, Nev.; great-grandsons Aaron Jr. of Pittsburg, Calif., and Roman of Las Vegas, Nev.; great-granddaughters, Jazmine and Jayla of Las Vegas, Nev.; cousin, Ann Smith of Maryville. Arrangements will be handled by Palm Mortuary, 1325 N. Main Street, Las Vegas, N.V. Viewing will be on January 17 at Palm Mortuary from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. Graveside services will be held at 2 p.m. at Memory Gardens on Lone Mountain Road in Las Vegas, Nev.
