TROTTER, MARY ROBY - age 90 of Knoxville passed away on October 17, 2008. She was married for 55 years to the Rev. Dr. Frank E. Trotter Sr. prior to his death in 1995. They served United Methodist churches in Copperhill, Chattanooga, Kingsport, Knoxville and Athens TN, Pulaski, VA, and Bunyan Meeting Free Church in Bedford, England. Mary was very active in many areas of church work during her life. She continued serving as an adult Sunday school teacher and as a volunteer at St. Mary's Hospital well into her 80's. The Trotters organized and escorted many trips to Europe and other locations. Mary graduated from Centenary Junior College for Women, later attended Radford College where she was selected for Phi Beta Kappa and earned a BA from Tennessee Wesleyan College. She is preceded in death by her parents, the Rev. Ralph R. and Mary E. Spencer Roby, husband Frank E. Trotter, Sr. and sister Elizabeth R. Brown. She is survived by sisters, Ellen Diehl of Lakewood, NJ and Evangeline and brother-in-law Donald Sweitzer of Easton, PA.; brother-in-law Troy Trotter of Oak Ridge, TN; daughter Mary and son-in-law Clifton Stoneburner of Sykesville, MD; sons Rev. Dr. Frank E. Trotter, Jr. of Pasadena, CA, Roby and daughter-in-law Elinor Trotter of Knoxville, TN, and John and daughter-in-law Susan Trotter of Brookfield, WI; 7 grandchildren and 1 great-granddaughter. The family offers heartfelt appreciation to the staff and residents of Arbor Terrace Assisted Living who provided loving care and companionship to Mary for the past five years. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions be made to the Fountain City United Methodist Capital Fund, 212 Hotel Rd. Knoxville TN 37918 or to the Alzheimer's Association, Eastern Tennessee Chapter, at 2200 Sutherland Avenue, Suite H102, Knoxville, TN 37919. A celebration of life will be held on Sunday, October 26 at 3:30 p.m. at Fountain City United Methodist Church. The family will receive friends following the service. Friends may call at their convenience at Gentry-Griffey Funeral Chapel.
