UNDERWOOD, GLENN ELLEN BERRY - age 73 of Strawberry Plains, passed away Monday, February 19, 2007, and has moved up to straighten out Heaven. Left with instructions to "Don't Worry, Be Happy" are: husband of 45 years, Glyn Underwood; her children, Conley Glyn Underwood and Carol Lynn Underwood (Thomas); devoted daughter-in-law, Regina Fortenberry Underwood; grandchildren (in order of arrival), Taylor Glynn Thomas, Ashley Catherine Underwood, Samuel Michael Thomas, and Abbey Danielle Underwood; and a multitude of friends, extended family, and "adopted" children and family. Just short of her 74th birthday and barely missing one more opportunity for birthday cake icing, she enjoyed every moment of a life that, for those going on without her further instructions, was still too short. Having spent her life living the belief that "It takes a village" and appointing herself the village disciplinarian, she did more than her part in helping raise many children...and their children. Gifted with a beautiful voice and a love of music, she came to Trentville United Methodist Church as a choir director and stayed after losing her heart to the love of her life, Glyn. She has spent over 30 years working with Glyn and her children as office manager of Lubrication Equipment Service. She was a leader, an inspiration, a counselor, and the conscience of those whose lives she touched through the church, her children's schools and every other room she entered. A force, who put the "fear of Glenn Ellen" in everyone from small children to ministers to experienced surgeons and cancer. Known far and wide for being able to "fix anything" including raising dogs from the dead, she did more than her part to make the world and everyone she came in contact with happier. Leaving all she touched feeling stronger, more independent and better about themselves. She left us all to what she raised us to do: take care of each other and BE HAPPY! And then, she went to have lunch with Charlotte. Funeral services will be 8 pm Thursday, February 22, 2007 in the chapel at Bridges Funeral Home with Rev. Steve Evans and Rev. Jim Whedbee officiating. Family and friends will meet 10:45 am Friday at Thorn Grove Cemetery for an 11 am interment. Pallbearers: a.k.a. "adopted sons" Brad Brown, Mike Andrews, David Sexton, Lynn Underwood, Skip McMillian, Gary Stinnett, Kenny Stout, and Joe Witt. In lieu of flowers, her family requests memorial gifts be sent to: Trentville United Methodist Church, 9215 Strawberry Plains Pike, Strawberry Plains, TN 37871 (933-5041). The family will receive friends 6-8 pm Thursday at Bridges Funeral Home, 5430 Rutledge Pike, 523-4999.
