WHEELER, JOE NATHAN - 75, formerly of South Knoxville and currently residing in Lake City, Tennessee, passed away in a car accident on June 1, 2012. Joe was born on May 5, 1937 in Iuka, Mississippi. He is survived by his sister, Joan (Joe) Irwin of Lawrenceville, GA; children, Paul (Jamie) Wheeler of Jacksboro, TN, Kathy Wheeler of Tampa, FL, and Beth (Russell) Valentine of Valrico, FL; their mother, Maretta Wheeler Knittel; and grandchildren, Cory Joe and Andrew Nathan and Russell Shane Valentine. He is also survived by five step children and three nephews. Joe was preceded in death by his parents, Herschel and Mildred Wheeler, and two wives, Peggy Simpson Wheeler and Betty Lou Widener Wheeler. Joe was a member of the Clinch River Baptist Church in Lake City and former member of Island Home Baptist Church in South Knoxville. Joe lived a joyful Christian life, and he knew that death was the doorway to Heaven. Family and friends will gather at 6:00 p.m. Tuesday, June 12, 2012 at the Clinch River Baptist Church in Lake City, TN. A Celebration of Life Service for Joe will follow at 7:00 p.m. with Rev. Keith Tillman and Rev. Larry Webster officiating. Joe's nephew, Rev. Richard Irwin will be sharing scripture. Casual summer attire. Hatmaker Funeral Home of Lake City is in charge of arrangements.
