WEST, WILLIAM "BILL" REECE, SR. - age 79 of Seymour, loving husband, father, grandfather, and friend, peacefully entered the Kingdom of Heaven from his home on June 30, 2009 after a short battle with cancer. Born in Tazewell Co. Virginia on February 13, 1930 and is preceded in death by parents, George Washington West, Sr. and Dora Ethel Beavers West; brothers, Thomas L., Elmer Earl, Charles P., Dewey E., and Robert P. West; sisters, Dorothy West, Jewel West Raines, Pauline West Lowe, Marion West Benfield, Jane West Milligan, and Bertha West; sons-in-law, George G. Boling and Charles E. "Eddie" McCroskey. Those left to cherish his life and honor his legacy include his devoted wife of 57 years, Juanita "Boots" Harris West; sons, William R. "Bill" (Kaye) West, Jr., and George H. (Lea) West; daughters Peggy McCroskey, Patty Boling, and Pamela Carter. "Papaw" is also survived by his grandchildren, William R. "Will" West III, Aaron West, Andrea West Trent, Rebecca McCroskey Lewis, Kelly McCroskey Gibson, Cody G. Boling, Jessica Carter, Jared Reece Carter; great grandchildren, Sophia Trent, Daniel and Jacob Gibson and Wheeler Lewis; brothers, George Washington, Jr. and James K. (Delores) West of Tazewell County, VA; sister in law, Linda Harris Norante of Knoxville, Mary Harris (Rudy)Klink of Eden Prairie, MN; brother in law, Norman E. (Sharon) Harris, Sr. of Fayetteville, NC, James (Rose Marie) Harris of Lodi, NJ, Cecil "Red" (Patty) Harris of Boonton, NJ, and many cousins; Nieces and Nephews. Also survived by faithful friends and neighbors, Walter "Dub" (Faye) Browning. He was a retired aircraft mechanic from Cherokee Aviation at McGee Tyson airport and enjoyed Bluegrass Music playing the mandolin and guitar. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army serving in Alaska during the Korean Conflict and was a member of New Hopewell Baptist Church in Knoxville. The family will receive friends at New Hopewell Baptist Church, 943 Kimberlin Heights Rd. on Thursday from 5-7pm with the service to follow at 7pm; The Rev. Joel Tilson to officiate. A graveside service will be held on Friday at 11am at the Highland South Memorial Park; 9070 E. Simpson Rd. Pallbearers will be grandsons and friends. The West family would like to thank Mr. West's neighbors' and church family for the many prayers, acts of kindness, and food given these past few months. They would like to thank the ladies of Baptist Home Health Care, St. Mary's Home Hospice, and special family friend and nurse Sarah Moore for their brief but compassionate and professional service. There is an honored and special place in heaven for you all. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the New Hopewell Baptist Church, Food Pantry fund.
