Benson announces candidacy for re-election

NEWPORT-Cocke County Register of Deeds Linda H. Benson has announced her candidacy for re-election.
Benson has served in this position for nearly 12 years.
In announcing her candidacy, Benson said, "It has been an honor and a privilege to have served the people of Cocke County as Register of Deeds. I am asking for your continued support and your vote in the May 4 Republican Primary."
Benson, who attends First United Methodist Church, is a lifelong member of the Republican party and is also a member of the East Tennessee State Register of Deeds Association and of the Cocke County Archives Board. She is a former secretary of the Republican Women's Club.
Looking back over her tenure as Register of Deeds, Benson noted, "Since I took office in 1998, state audits have shown excellent fiscal responsibility. The office is now totally computerized. All documents have been microfilmed and sent to the State of Tennessee Archives for protection.
"With the held of a very capable staff, including Deputy Register Debra Lovell and Clerk Marie Holder, we have a maximum 24-hour turnaround on all documents and access to documents of those dated 1996 through the present on the Internet.
"All documents after recording are available in thirty minutes on the Internet for attorneys and abstractors checking titles to property."
Benson is married to Willard "Coot" Benson, who is employed by the Cocke County Board of Education. They have one daughter Jessica Marie Benson, a teacher at Edgemont Elementary School.
She is the daughter of the late Charles "Bud" Henderson and the late Marie Owens Henderson. She is the sister of Sandra H. Clowers and Charles "Buddy" Henderson, Jr.
