Memorial service will be held 7:00 pm Thursday, March 12, 2009 in Manes Funeral Home Chapel, with Rev. Leon Large, officiating. The family will receive friends from 5-7 pm Thursday prior to the funeral at Manes Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers donations may be made toward funeral expenses. Cocke Co. man killed in single-vehicle wreck HARTFORD, Tenn. - A Newport man was killed Saturday when he was crushed by an SUV as it rolled down an embankment in Cocke County, according to the Tennessee Highway Patrol. Richard D. Bright, 48, was driving a 1994 Ford Explorer on a private drive near Big Creek Road when the vehicle rolled down a 30-foot embankment about 1:10 p.m., a THP dispatcher said. Bright was ejected and the vehicle rolled on top of him as it went down the slope before coming to rest on its wheels. Bright wasn't wearing a seat belt and both alcohol and drug use might have contributed to the crash, the dispatcher said. Blood tests have been ordered, he said. Man dies in traffic mishap HARTFORD-A Cocke County man died Saturday afternoon after his vehicle rolled down a 30-foot embankment off Big Creek Road. According to a report filed by Trooper Mike Holt of the Tennessee Highway Patrol, Richard Dean Bright, 48, Briggs Avenue, Newport, was killed in the accident. Bright had reportedly stopped at a residence on Big Creek Road and was backing out when his 1994 Ford Explorer got off the edge of the roadway and began to roll.
