Mrs. Alma Hall, age 94, passed away suddenly Sunday, November 29, 2009, at Fort Sanders Hospital in Knoxville. She was born November 21, 1915.
She was preceded in death by her husband Carl J. Hall; parents Melvin and Lucinda Cotheran; sisters Oda, Essie, Sally, Allene, and Laney, and brother Fairdy Cotheran.
Her survivors include her daughter and son-in-law Linda and Dr. James Worden of Knoxville, with whom she has made her home for the past six years.
She is also survived by her sisters Eliza Huskey and Euvilla Massey, and sister-in-law Laura Cotheran, all of Newport. Additional survivors include many nieces, nephews, and friends.
Mrs. Hall was a charter member of English Creek Baptist Church where she taught Sunday School for several years to the four- and five-year-old children.
She was an excellent cook, and her specialties were pork tenderloin and chocolate pie, which she served to many ministers and other guests. She had a great smile and never wanted anyone to say anything unpleasant about another person.
Mrs. Hall was known as a "homebody" and enjoyed the simple things in life. She especially cherished her family, church, and friends. She will be dearly missed by all who knew her.
Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Thursday, December 3, 2009, in the Costner-Maloy Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Fred Cagle and Rev. James McTyre officiating. Interment will follow in the Hall Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 12:00-1:30 p.m. prior to the services at Costner-Maloy Funeral Home.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorials be made to English Creek Baptist Church or to the charity of your choice.
Arrangements by Costner-Maloy.
