(September 20, 1928 - April 5, 2015) Merrie Ruth Shropshire, age 86 of Newport, passed away Sunday, April 5, 2015 at Life Care Center of Morristown. She was preceded in death by her parents, Arlie & Hattie Lane Templin; her husband, J.F. “Smiley” Shropshire; son, Hal Shropshire; as well as three brothers and three sisters. Mrs. Shropshire is survived by a son, Mike (Elaine) Shropshire; daughters, Agnes (John) Smelcer and Melissa (Billy) Wines; grandchildren, Kevin (Christa) Grahl, Crystal (John) Ford, Brandon (Jessi Wines), Jacob Wines, & John Shropshire; and great-grandchildren, Ethan & Danyale Grahl and Tyler Wines. The family will receive friends Monday, April 6, 2015 from 5PM to 7PM at Brown Funeral Home. A funeral service will be held at 7PM with Rev. Billy Wines officiating. Burial will be Tuesday, April 7, 2015 at 11AM in the Tom Templin Cemetery. The family extends special thanks to the West Wing staff of Life Care Center in Morristown. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in Mrs. Shropshire’s honor to Alzheimer’s Tennessee (5801 Kingston Pike, Knoxville, TN 37919).
