Sarah Susan Smith Broyles

Sarah Susan Smith Broyles, of Greeneville, went to be with the Lord August 25, 2008, after an extended illness. Susan was born in Parrottsville, on January 11, 1948, to the late Glen and Ladye Eisenhower Smith.
Susan was an animal lover and one of her greatest loves was her walking horse named Masterpiece R which she rode and showed in many area horse shows including the Walking Horse Celebration World Championship at Shelbyville, Tenn.
Susan spent many years working and tending animals at veterinarian clinics. At one time, she owned and operated her own pet grooming business.
She was a faithful member of Mt. Hebron United Methodist Church of Greeneville and was also a dedicated member of her choir there. She participated in other functions there including an Easter Passion play that was performed at Mt. Hebron for several years. Susan also sang with a quartet and later a trio for several years. She was proud of her Christian faith and served her God greatly.
Preceding her in death were two brothers, Russell Smith and Richard Smith, both of Parrottsville.
She leaves behind her beloved husband, Jerry Broyles, to whom she was married for twenty years. Also she leaves two sons, John Anthony Holt, of Kingsport, and Randall Edward Holt, of Parrottsville; a granddaughter, Ashley Holt, also of Parrottsville; three sisters, Louise Smith, Betty Smith, both of Newport, and Farrell Smith Culberson, of Longwood, Fla.
She also leaves several nieces and nephews; stepchildren, Kevin D. Broyles, of Knoxville; Selina Broyles Steele, of Bristol, Va.; Jerry G. Broyles, of Bluff City. She also leaves nine step-grandchildren.
Susan had become fond of her new friend, Sandy Stowers, of the West Pines Community, who helped care for her while she was ill.
A memorial service will be held Saturday, August 30, 2008, at Mt. Hebron United Methodist Church with Rev. Steve Tuck officiating. The family will receive friends 4:30 – 7:00 p.m. followed by the memorial service at 7:00 p.m.
