Colleen Wood Ball, of El Paso, Texas, born September 4, 1934 in Newport, TN, passed away on October 4, 2002 at 9:15 a.m. in El Paso.
She was the daughter of the late Scott B. and Lucy Turner Wood.
After marrying Robert K. Ball, Jr., of Newport, in 1954, they moved to El Paso in 1955 where they have lived since and raised two children.
Colleen is preceded in death by her son, Kirby Scott.
Survived by her husband, Robert Ball; daughter, Sandra Jo Bishop and husband, Derry; grandchildren, Crystal and Phillip Bishop, of Ft. Riley, Kansas; four sisters and one brother: Wanda Holt and husband, P.T., of Manchester, Tennessee; L.S. Wood and wife Eudena, Shirley Shelton and husband James, Peggy Kilgore and husband Harold, and Barbara Welch and husband Don, all of Newport; several nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
Colleen moved her church membership from Pleasant Grove Baptist Church of Newport to First Baptist Church of El Paso on February 24, 1957. She began working in the church nursery in 1962 and in the Day Care Center in 1968, becoming its director in 1979. She continued there until 1994, when her health forced her to retire. Her husband retired from the El Paso Fire Department in 1990.
Graveside services will be held at 1 p.m. Friday at Union Cemetery, with Rev. Ransom Hall officiating.
The family will receive friends from 10 a.m. until 12 noon at Manes Funeral Home prior to the graveside service.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Jude’s Hospital or the Ronald McDonald House.
