W. D. GOFORTH, age 83, of Dandridge, TN passed away Sunday, August 7, 2016 at St. Mary’s Tennova Hospital after suffering a stroke. He was born January 31, 1933 in Jefferson County to John Wesley and Burvellee R. Goforth. He attended Maury High School, where he was an accomplished athlete in baseball and basketball. He was married to Carolyn Ownby Goforth and was a lifelong resident of Jefferson County. Mr. Goforth was an avid farmer and served on the Jefferson County Farm Bureau Association Board of Directors. He enjoyed showing cattle at county fairs, where he was successful, winning many blue ribbons for prize livestock. Mr. Goforth was a faithful member of Grant’s Chapel United Methodist Church for many years. He was a generous, hardworking man who loved the Lord and singing. He also loved his family and friends and was always willing to help anyone in need. Mr. Goforth was preceded in death by his wife, Carolyn Ownby Goforth; parents, Burvelle R. and John Wesley Goforth; brothers, Hubert Goforth, Kenneth “Krow” Goforth, Raymond Goforth; brothers-in-law, Leon Felknor and Clyde “Junior” Breeden; and mother-in-law, Mary Ownby. Mr. Goforth is survived by his sisters, Imogene Goforth Felknor and Mary Sue Goforth Breeden; sisters-in-law, Josephine Lewis Goforth, Mae Welch Goforth and Marie Thornton Goforth; several nieces and nephews, and special friends, Jeff and Kim Underwood and family. Receiving of friends will be Tuesday, August 9, 2016 from 5:00 until 7:00 p.m. at Grant’s Chapel United Methodist Church. Funeral service will follow at 7:00 p.m. with Rev. Charles Shipley officiating. Graveside interment service will be at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, August 10, 2016 at Dandridge Memorial Gardens with Rev. Jared Wood officiating. Pallbearers will be Jeff Underwood, Craig Briggs, Clifford Briggs, Kevin Breeden, Don Breeden and Terry Sellars. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Grant’s Chapel Cemetery Fund and Mt. Zion United Methodist Church Cemetery Fund, c/o Linda Franklin, PO Box 693, Dandridge, TN 37725.
