Kilgore clan celebrates reunion
Descendants of the late Charlie and Letha Kilgore gathered recently for a reunion. NEWPORT—A recent gathering celebrated the 70th birthday of Jimmy Kilgore and brought together descendants of his parents, the late Charlie and Maggie Letha (Ottinger) Kilogre.
The elder Kilgores were the parents of the following children: Ellen Kilgore Overton, Mary Kilgore Owenby, Irene Kilgore Wood, Eva Kilgore Smith, Louise Kilgore Franklin, Blanche Kilore Moore, Sible Kilgore France, and their only son Jimmy Kilgore.
Of the large family, only Irene Kilgore Wood and Jimmy Kilgore are living.
Many of the family have enjoyed very long lives including Mrs. Kilgore At the time of her death Maggie Letha (Ottinger Kilgore was 108 years of age, the oldest person living in Cocke County at the time, and her oldest child was 89 years old. Born August 8, 1894 in a log house in the Goodwater community of Parrottsville, she had the distinction of living in three separate centuries and lived by hersel until the age of 103.
At the recent gathering the Kilgore clan enjoyed a late afternoon lunch and sharing memories.
