Mary Jane Rukstales, 80, of Zion died on Saturday, September 25, 2004 at Victory Memorial Hospital in Waukegan.
She was born July 10, 1924 in Rochelle, IL and was employed as a registered nurse at the Veterans Hospital in North Chicago, and also was a relief nurse at the U.S. Steel Plant Wire Mill in North Chicago through the 1960's. She was a former member of the First United Methodist Church in Waukegan. Mary operated Al's Paint and Wall Coverings, (which later became Mary's Crafts) in Zion from 1959-1995. She belonged to the National Association of Business Women and was awarded "Business Woman of the Year" in 1969. Mary was active in the community as a former Cub Scout and Boy Scout Leader, and participated in many charitable and civic organizations in the Zion area.
She is survived by two sons, John Rukstales of Burlington, WI and Bruce Rukstales of Antigo, WI; six grandchildren, Melissa Harris, Everett, Earl, Brianna, Gunnur and Arianna Rukstales; two great grandchildren, Noah and Jeremiah Harris; and numerous nieces and nephews. Mary was preceded in death by her husband, John in 1956; a sister, Rita Jones; and her parents, George and Reva Koch.
Funeral Services will be held on Wednesday, September 29, 2004 at 10:30 AM at the CONGDON FUNERAL HOME, 3012 Sheridan Rd., Zion with Reverend Paul Gerardy Sr. of the Memorial United Methodist Church of Zion officiating. Interment will follow at the North Shore Garden of Memories Cemetery, North Chicago, IL, Visitation will be held on /Tuesday, September 28, 2004 from 6 to 9 PM at the funeral home.
