Lorraine B. Hardine, 84, of Virginia Beach, Va., and a former resident of Glen Ellyn, died Sunday, April 13, 2003, at Sentara Leigh Hospital in Norfolk, Va. She was born April 13, 1919, in Orangeville, N.Y.
Before her marriage in 1941, she worked as a secretary for Project C-47 at Curtis Wright. She had been a lifetime member of the Lydia Circle at United Methodist Church of Glen Ellyn. She and her husband were active in Post 1824 Captain Conyers Dailey Veterans of Foreign Wars, for which she played many roles in the VFW Auxiliary, including serving as president.
She is survived by her husband of 61 years, Raymond L. Hardine; three children, Milton J. Hardine of Virginia Beach, Sharon A. (husband Alex) Ames of Fuquay-Varina, N.C., and Gayle L. Hardine of Covena, Calif.; eight grandchildren, Palmyra Pawlik, Alison Ames, Gina Ames, Guy Ames, Nicki Bradshaw, Todd Hardine, Steffanie Hardine and Shaun Hardine; eight great-grandchildren, Shyla Ames, Olivia Lassa, Nathan Settlemaier, Henry Lassa, Cody Hardine, Mason Hardine, Berek Hardine and Brayden Bradshaw; a sister, Thelma Sevens of Mount Morris, N.Y.; five nieces and nephews; 14 great-nieces and great-nephews; and her friend and companion, Dee Cruthers.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Grace and Albert Gath, and a sister, Evelyn Gibbs.
A memorial service will take place at 1 p.m. Tuesday, April 22, at Leonard Memorial Home, 565 Duane, Glen Ellyn.

VIRGINIA BEACH - Lorraine B. Hardine, 84, formerly of Glen Ellyn, Ill., passed away April 13, 2003 in Sentara Leigh Hospital.
Born April 13, 1919, in Orangeville, N.Y., Mrs. Hardine died peacefully on her 84th birthday surrounded by family who loved her dearly and celebrated her life. We are all saddened by our loss; however are comforted by that fact that she is now free of any affliction and in a better place.
Raymond and Lorraine celebrated 61 years of marriage on Oct. 13, 2002. Prior to their marriage in 1941, Lorraine worked at Curtis Wright as a secretary of Project C-47.
