Age at death: 77 Gene Brackin Tuesday, Oct 06, 2009 Gene Brackin , 77, a longtime resident of Cleveland, passed away Saturday, Oct. 3, 2009, in a Chattanooga hospital. He was a faithful member of Macedonia Baptist Church for 65 years. He was the last of eight children. He retired in 1994 from Bowater Paper Mill after 40 years of service. He was preceded in death by his parents, Riley Davis and Ethel Ownby Brackin ; and seven brothers and sisters. He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Nell Brackin ; children: Mitchell "Mickey" Brackin of Cleveland, and Tommy Herd and his wife, Bunny Brackin Herd, of Cleveland; grandchildren: Andrew Brackin , Elizabeth Brackin , Jonathan Brackin , Brittany Herd and Jeremi Herd; one very special great-grandchild, Brackin Ford; brother-in-law, Bobby Fulbright and wife, Doris, of Benton; and several nieces and nephews. The funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 7, 2009, at the Macedonia Baptist Church with Pastor Russell Langford and the Rev. R.T. Roberts officiating. Interment will follow in the Macedonia Baptist Church Cemetery with nephews serving as pallbearers. A white dove release ceremony will conclude the service.
