DYKES, PEGGY ELAINE BOOKER - Born March 15, 1937, in Union County to William V. and Marjory (Goolsby) Booker, died at home in Rockford at 4 p.m. Thursday, October 20, of cancer. The Bookers settled in Union County, on a land grant, in the late 1700s. The log house they built still stands. Her ashes will be buried a short distance from the old home. She leaves husband, Jim Dykes children Katie Dykes Pace and husband, Kyle, Kelly Margaret Dykes Bob Dykes and wife Pamela and stepdaughter Shannon David Dykes, Sally Dykes Pearson grandchildren Jennifer Dykes Stamper and husband James James (Jade) Dykes and friend Christine Bramstedt great-grandchildren Michael and Jacob Stamper nephew Eric Patterson and niece Heather Patterson Earl, whom she helped to rear as she worked toward her degree in speech therapy at U.T. She later received a master's degree from LMU. She also leaves a brother, William L. Booker and wife, Wilma, and sister, Marie Booker DeVault and Husband, Henry T. DeVault. She leaves also an aunt, Mrs. French (Ruth Goolsby) Harris, and her mother-in-law, Mrs. Boone (Elsa Chambers) Dykes and her best friend and favorite cousin, Mrs. Avery (Susie Harris) Clark, along with several other cousins, nieces and nephews. She was an avid fan of U.T. football and men's basketball, and an enthusiastic--sometimes loud--partisan of the Lady Vols basketball team. She loved her fountain, her pond, and koi fish, and was passionately devoted to her yard and her profuse flower beds--to the point, in fact, that her husband was not allowed on a lawnmower, to operate a weed-whacker, or anywhere near a bottle of Round-Up. Family and friends will gather at 1 p.m. Saturday October 29, 2005 at Cedar Ford Baptist Church in Luttrell, for an informal memorial service where Pastor Dick Bumgardner will read some scripture, tell of his friendship with her family, and try to maintain order in the clan. Take Tazewell Pike to Luttrell, where it deadends, and Cedar Ford Baptist is right across the road. She and her husband, Jim, were married there May 30, 1957. Arrangements by Cremation Options Inc.
