ESLINGER, TOM F. - age 72, of East Meeting St., Dandridge, passed away Monday afternoon, Nov. 29, 1999, at St. Mary's Medical Center following a brief illness. He was the son of the late George and Sarah Brown Eslinger and was preceded in death by sisters, Pauline Corbett, Frances Patterson; and brother, Wm. "Red" Eslinger. Tom was a longtime barber in the Dandridge community having owned and operated the City Barber Shop for many years. He was former sheriff of Jefferson Co., having served from 1978-1990, and also served as Jefferson Co. coroner, former mayor for the town of Dandridge and had also served on the city council. Member of the First Baptist Church of Dandridge, Brazelton Lodge #190 F.& A.M., VFW Post #3380 and was a charter member of the Dandridge Volunteer Fire Dept. and the Jefferson Co. Rescue Squad. Veteran of World War II and the US Army. Tom enjoyed raising and working with Tennessee Walking Horses and was known for his participation in area horse shows and events. He was presently employed as the bailiff officer of the Jefferson Co. Judicial Courts. Survivors: wife, Willie Coakley Eslinger; daughter, Debbie Eslinger; and son, Tim Eslinger, both of Knoxville; sister, Sue E. Satterfield; brothers, Turney and Dick Eslinger and Earl Brown, all of Dandridge; several nieces and nephews and cousins. Funeral service Thursday 2 p.m. at the First Baptist Church of Dandridge with Dr. Robert McCray and Rev. Troy Duncan officiating. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that memorials be made to the First Baptist Church, POB 246, Dandridge, TN or the Dandridge Full Gospel Ministries, POB 1173, Dandridge, TN 37725. Family will receive friends Wednesday 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. at the First Baptist Church, Dandridge. Area law enforcement officers will serve as honorary pallbearers. Arrangements by Farrar Funeral Home, Dandridge.
