George Headrick, 77, passed away peacefully Monday, Aug. 25, 2003, with his family at his side.
George was born Feb. 1, 1926, to Pleas and Mary Headrick of Maryville, Tenn. He was one of 12 children. George served two years in the Navy. He was an employee of Firestone for 31 years, serving in many capacities, the last 15 years in supervision in stock control. After retiring from Firestone, he and his brother formed Headrick Construction Co. George was an active member of the Goodyear Heights United Methodist Church, where he served as the head usher for 30 years and was a member of the United Methodist Men. He was active in the maintenance and construction projects of the church and served on many committees and projects. He was an active member of the Goodyear Heights Lions Club for 35 years, serving many years as their chaplain. George was a friend and neighbor to everyone he met. He was always willing to lend a helping hand to anyone in need.
Preceded in death by four brothers and two sisters, he is survived by his wife of 54 years, Rosa Lee; son, Donald (Donna) of Tallmadge; daughters, Karen and Mary Headrick of Hawthorne, Calif., Dinah Dolly and Carol (Karl) Moore of Akron; grandchildren, Tom (fiancee, Julie), Mike (fiancee, Angela), and Joe Headrick of Tallmadge, Crystal Dolly and Kim (Dujuan) McClendon, Christopher and Jessica Moore, all of Akron, and Nicole Hamler of Hawthorne, Calif.; four great-grandchildren; sisters, Jeanette (Bill) McCammon and Annabelle Hill of Maryville; and brothers, Floyd of Maryville and James (Mae) of Norton.
The funeral service will be held Thursday, Aug. 28, 2003, 11 a.m., at the Goodyear Heights United Methodist Church, 1690 Hillside Terrace, with Pastor Lorry M. Mabiala officiating. Interment at Hillside Memorial Park, where military honors will be conducted by Firestone V.F.W. Post 3383. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Wednesday, Aug. 27, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m., and on Thursday, one hour prior to the service, from 10 to 11 a.m., at the church.
