NORTON, J. Ray, age 94 of Maryville, passed away Thursday, April 24, 2008, at his home. He was a member of First Baptist Church of Maryville for 84 years, was a Sergeant during World War II, having served with the U. S. Army in England and France and received the Bronze Star, was a member of the TN National Guard . He was retired from ALCOA after 44 years of service, was a member of the Blount County Republican Executive Committee, Maryville City School Board for 28 years, served as a Boy Scout Commissioner, a member of Smoky Mtn. Jeep Club and the TN Valley Sportsman Club. He loved his family, enjoyed nature and outdoor activities.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Geraldine “Jerry” Raulston Norton; son, David Norton; parents, James A. and Cora Ellis Norton; sister, Jama Norton; brother, Frank Norton.
Survivors include sons, Donald Norton and wife, Dolores, Dale Norton, Bobby Norton and wife Susan; daughters, Sharon Young and husband, J.R., Jeanne Porter and husband, Steve; 5 grandchildren; 4 great grandchildren; brother, Jimmy Norton.
Funeral services will be held at 3:00 p.m. Saturday in McCammon-Ammons-Click Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. David Sharp officiating. The interment will follow in Magnolia Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 1:30-3:00 p.m. Saturday at McCammon-Ammons-Click Funeral Home, Maryville.
