Townsend, Sr., Joe D., age 76, of Rockford, Tennessee, went to be with the Lord on Saturday, September 28, 2013. He was a member of Rockford Community Church where he served as a deacon and Sunday School teacher. He was a Gideon. Joe was the owner of Townsend Wrecker Service in Rockford. He was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph and Ruth Townsend; brothers Bob, Jim, and Harry Townsend; and sister Rhonda Townsend. Joe is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 56 years, Shirley Houser Townsend; son, Joe D. Townsend, Jr. and wife Kristi; daughter, Susan Stephens and husband, Doyle all of Maryville; grandchildren: Joseph Stephens, Whitney Townsend, Kati Townsend, Elizabeth Stephens; great-grandchild, Hagyn Joseph McKinley Stephens of Maryville; sisters, Johnnie Robinson of Knoxville; Imogene Beavers of Florida; brother, Lewis Townsend and wife, Geraldine, of Seymour; several nieces and nephews; special friend, Tony Murrell. Family will receive friends on Tuesday from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM in the chapel of Berry Funeral Home with the funeral service to follow at 8:00 PM, Rev. Ernie Sands and Rev. Greg Beavers officiating. Family and friends will meet at Sherwood Memorial Gardens on Wednesday at 10:00 AM for interment services. Arrangements by Berry Funeral Home, Chapman Highway.
