HARVEY, JENNIE MAXINE BROWN - 79, a faithful wife, nurturing mother, loving grandmother and adoring great grandmother passed away at her home in Oliver Springs on Sunday October 17, 2010. Born May 03, 1931, Mrs. Harvey was a 1948 graduate of Oliver Springs High School and Co-Captain of the Women's basketball team. She grew up as an active member of the Oliver Springs community and loved local politics, being the daughter of the city judge. Mrs. Harvey served as treasurer for the City of Oliver Springs for 12 years while also filling the position of town Librarian and was recognized with her selection to be included in Who's Who in American Women. She continued her community support throughout the years being a long time energetic member of the Oliver Springs Historical Society. Recently, Mrs. Harvey and her husband were honored by the naming and dedication of the C.S. and Maxine Harvey Community Center in Oliver Springs. Mrs. Harvey and her husband Claude S. Harvey Jr. have co-owned and operated Harvey's Furniture and Appliance Co. in Oliver Springs, TN for over 60 years. Mrs. Harvey and her husband were married at the First Baptist Church in Oliver Springs in 1949, recently celebrating their 61st wedding anniversary. The First Baptist Church and its members always held a special place in her heart and life. She was an active member of Mt. Pisgah Baptist Church for over 57 years where Mrs. Harvey taught Sunday school for over 20 years, served on the food committees, and worked in the nursery. As an avid sports fan and faithful supporter of Oliver Springs Athletics, Mrs. Harvey rarely missed a single athletic event especially when her grandchildren were playing for the Bobcats and Lady Cats. In 2009, the Oliver Springs High School Annual was dedicated to her and her husband for their long time support of the school and its' programs. Their support has included the awarding of multiple scholarships to deserving seniors, attendance awards to students with perfect attendance, and a Golden Member of the Athletics Boosters Club. She was preceded in death by her parents L.N. Brown Sr. and Addie Duncan Brown; one grandson, Jonathan Patterson; four brothers, Thaxton Hayes Brown, Thomas Barkstal Brown, Silas Roger Brown, and L.N. Brown Jr.; three sisters, Louella Mae Brown, Mattie Elizabeth Brown Patterson, and Margret Anne Brown Speake. She is survived by her husband C. S. Harvey Jr. of Oliver Springs; two sons, John Thomas Harvey and wife Donetta of Oliver Springs, and Claude S. "Buster" Harvey III of Knoxville; two daughters, Claudia Maxine Harvey Patterson, and Donna Maria Harvey Whedbee and husband Joseph Guy all of Oliver Springs; five grandchildren, Joseph Michael Whedbee and wife Beth of Kingston, John Mark Whedbee and wife Amanda of Knoxville, Jennie Shea Watts of Maryville, Rebecca Anne Harvey and Katelyn Elizabeth Harvey of Oliver Springs; two great-grandchildren, Claudia Sydney Watts of Maryville and Caden Michael Whedbee of Kingston; four sisters in-law, Dortha Brown and Patsy Begley both of Oliver Spring, Betty Harvey of Harriman, Barbara Hood of Crossville; brother-in-law, Bob Schultz of Wartburg; a host of nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews, great grandnieces and great grandnephews; special friends Rev. Jerry and Carol Prevo of Anchorage, Alaska. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 19, at Mt. Pisgah Baptist Church in Oliver Springs with funeral services to follow. Burial will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday Oct. 20th, at the Oliver Springs Cemetery. Sharp Funeral Home, Oliver Springs, is in charge of arrangements. An online register is available at www.sharpfh.com.
