James Monroe Phillips, age 87, Morristown, passed away Wednesday, June 3, 2015 at the St. Barnabas Nursing Facility @ Siskin Hospital in Chattanooga, TN.
James was a deacon at the Hillcrest Baptist Church.
He served as Staff Sargent in the US Air Force. He was a graduate of Tennessee Tech University with a BS degree in Biology and earned a M Ed from East Tennessee State University in Education Administration. He worked as a teacher and coach at Cosby High School, Cocke County High School, Maury High School (Dandridge) and Morristown Hamblen West High School and was also Assistant Principal at Morristown Hamblen West High School.
He was preceded in death by his wife Lillian Jane Ford Phillips, his parents, Robert Delmas and Connie Devore Phillips, and brother, Charles Eugene Phillips.
He is survived by his daughters, Melissa J. Phillips of Chattanooga and Jamie D. (Curt) Wallace of Georgia, two grandchildren, Lara W. (Travis) Keith and Katie W. (Matt) Moon, and two great grandchildren, James C. Keith and Emma Kathryn Moon.
Family will receive friends Saturday, June 6, 2015 from 3pm-4pm with funeral service to follow at 4pm in the Brown Funeral Home Chapel. Private graveside service will be held in the Union Cemetery.
