McConkey, Earl Wesley, “Pete”, age 78 of Halls passed away 4:30pm, Thursday, February 25, 2010 at St. Mary’s Residential Hospice. A longtime member of Black Oak Ridge Baptist Church. Pete was a 1952 graduate of Halls High. Veteran of the Korean War. Coach of many youths throughout the years at Halls Community Park. Long time business operator of the Amoco Service Station in Halls. Retired from Knox County School Systems. Preceded in death by father, Earl McConkey; sisters, Ruby Vineyard Tindell and Elizabeth Clevenger. Survived by wife, Helen; children, Cindy Thomas; Mike and wife Janet McConkey; Sandra and husband Gary Monroe; Lisa and husband Randy Hutchens; grandchildren, James and Elizabeth Thomas; Jessica and Scott Stanford; Emilee McConkey; Paul Michael McConkey; Phillip Monroe; Sarah Monroe; Samantha and Justen Collins; great grandchildren, James Alan Thomas, III; Robert Ozias Collins; mother, Erma “Granny” McConkey; brother, Don McConkey; sister, Eileen Eubanks. A host of nephews, nieces and other relatives and friends. Funeral services will be held Sunday at 8 pm in the Fountain City Chapel of Mynatt Funeral Home with Bill Berry and Dr. Bruce Marston officiating. Family and friends will meet Monday at 1:15 pm at Mynatt Funeral Home and proceed to Ft. Sumter Community Cemetery for interment at 2 pm. Pallbearers will be Jimmy Eubanks, Paul Michael McConkey, Wes McConkey, Phillip Monroe, Scott Stanford, James Thomas. Donations can be made to St. Mary’s Residential Hospice. The family will receive friends Sunday from 5-8 pm at Mynatt Funeral Home, Fountain City.
