A 46-year-old Rockford man who was involved in a traffic crash while en route to the hospital on Sunday died Monday.
Gregory L. Cannon, 46, Beacon Way, Rockford, was pronounced dead at about 5:25 a.m., according to Maryville Police Chief Tony Crisp.
The accident occurred at 4:03 p.m. Sunday while Cannon was being rushed to the hospital by his two stepsons, according to Maryville Police Department Crash Investigator Donnie Carroll. Cannon had been at the Bluffs at Fort Loudoun Lake near Fort Loudoun Dam and was injured while diving.
Cannon’s stepsons, Brian Keith Adams, 20, also of Beacon Way, and Kevin R. Adams, 26, Knoxville, were injured in the accident and taken to Blount Memorial Hospital.
Brian Adams was driving the vehicle, a Dodge Avenger, eastbound on West Lamar Alexander Parkway. Carroll said Adams was attempting to make a left turn onto West Broadway Avenue and failed to yield the right of way.
Carroll said Adams’ Avenger collided with a vehicle driven by Annie N. Williams, 19, Dixon, in the intersection. His vehicle continued traveling and struck a Volkswagen Beetle driven by Lesli M. Crowe, 16, Summer Drive, Friendsville.
Cannon, who was a backseat passenger in Adams’ vehicle, “was trapped and extricated” from the vehicle by Maryville firefighters.
