Eugene C. Dunn, Jr., 69, of Kodak passed away on Saturday April 2, 2016 after a lengthy battle with multiple myeloma. He was known as “Eugene” to his wife, “Gene” to his many friends and co-workers and “Butch” or “Butchie” to his mother and brothers. Gene was a graduate of Cocke County High School, Walters State Community College and Tusculum College. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Dandridge where he served as deacon, in the adult choir, as substitute adult teacher and 17 years on the automation committee. He spent countless hours volunteering at First Baptist Church of Newport and First Baptist Church of Dandridge assisting with telephones, wiring, computers, etc. He was talented and knowledgeable with a ready answer to most any question, especially in the fields of computers and electronics. He was a perfectionist with no job too challenging for him to undertake. Gene served in the Air Force for four years as a jet engine mechanic and later worked as a lineman at Newport Utilities Board , a computer salesman at Sears, in facilities management at Sevierville Hospital, construction, Bush Brothers, and for Lawler Woods at Baptist Hospital in Knoxville before retiring from Cedar Springs Presbyterian Church in Knoxville as a system administrator. His final job was his favorite due to the wonderful people he worked with who became dear friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, Eugene Dunn, Sr. and Margie Dunn, brother Dale Anthony Dunn, grandparents Otto and Connie Dunn and Henry C. and Jennie Floyd, nephew Jason Dunn, beloved uncle Buddy Floyd and beloved mother-in-law Mary Vinson. He is survived by his wife of 45 years Carwin Dunn of Kodak, his recliner buddy Pepper, brothers David (Darla) Dunn of Morristown, Joey Dunn of Elizabethton, Dennis (Gail) Dunn of Dandridge, in-laws Dub Vinson and a wonderful stepmother Edna Vinson of Newport, brothers-in-law Bill (Dotty) Vinson of Knoxville, Jim (LeeAnn) Vinson of Knoxville, nieces and nephews Brandon Dunn, Denny Dunn, Miranda (Phillip) Lewis, Julie (Randy) Phillips, Liza (Mike) Rutherford, Chandler Vinson, Eric Vinson, Lauren Vinson and great nieces and nephews Jace Dunn, Case and Piper Lewis, Kaitlyn Phillips, Campbell and Harris Rutherford, Kael Thorsen and Weston Vinson. The family will receive friends at First Baptist Church of Dandridge on Saturday, April 9 from 12pm-2pm with the funeral following at 2pm. Rev. Chandler Vinson, Rev. Justin Terrell, and Rev. Chris Headley will be presiding and military honors will be conferred. A graveside service will follow at 4pm at Union Cemetery in Newport. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the building fund or choir of First Baptist Church of Dandridge (951 TN-92; Dandridge, TN 37725) or the Boys and Girls Club of Newport (531 Bailey St; Newport, TN 37821).
