Tom Inman, born in Elizabethtown, Kentucky, is the son of Clarence and Georgia (Jo) Inman, and grandson of Pastor Hubert and Edna Inman.

Pastor Inman served numerous churches in the Cocke County area. He is a 1973 graduate of Cocke County High School, was captain of the 1973 CCHS baseball team, and received his Bachelors Degree in Business Management from East Tennessee State University in 1977.
Inman worked for the Long John Silver's food chain from 1977 through 1989, serving as local manager in Newport, and ultimately functioning as area manager for six outlets in the East Tennessee area. He became an agent for the Tennessee Farm Bureau in 1989 and served in that capacity through 2001. He is a licensed Insurance Agent in the State of Tennessee and is designated as a Chartered Life Underwriter. He is a member of the Cocke County Chamber of Commerce, The Gideon Society, and teaches the adult Sunday School class at First United Methodist Church of Newport.
Inman is married to Karen Gaddis Inman, a Newport native, the daughter of James and Eva Gaddis, and the father of three daughters; Cierra, 18, a student at UT, Kari Ann, 17, a high school senior, and Kenzie, 16, a high school junior.
