During one of my recent wanderings through Wal-Mart I ran into Bridgett Brooks. You recall we talked with her earlier this summer at Ruby Tuesday restaurant where she has been working as a waitress. She had her baby girl, Sydney Cierra about Sept. 1 and all is well. Mid September I was again at Ruby Tuesday meeting a new waitress, Jennifer (Clayton) Smith, and she is expecting a baby boy.
Jennifer, who is from Shreveport, Louisiana, has been in the county for about a dozen years. Her husband, Jason Smith works for the Evans brothers-Honda specialists. It didn't take me long to find out that he is the son of my old friend Benny Smith, who used to oversee the Cocke County Ambulance Service years ago. Benny is to be envied by those still working 8-5 p.m. because he has been retired for about six years. He worked as an emergency medical technician and administrator at the ambulance service for 27 years. He also built 13 years at American Enka. Yet, he is not comatose on a lawnchair these days. He mows lawns to stay active. His wife, Gaynell, is originally a member of the Cosby Cobble family, and the Smiths share four children: Jason, Michelle Finchum, Angela Ball, and Tanya Crumb. Gaynell also remains at work at the Log Cabin Pancake House in Pigeon Forge. At Evans, Jason is a paint and body specialist and looking forward to the birth of his son in February.
