HERRELL, DAVID CUMMINGS - age 86 of Knoxville, passed away Monday, August 6, 2007 at Ft. Sanders Regional Hospital. He was a Charter member of Cumberland Baptist Church and the Willing Workers Sunday School Class. He was an Army Veteran of WWII receiving the Silver Star, as well as 5 Battle Stars and an Arrowhead because he made the landing in Italy in 1943 on the first day. He worked at Oak Ridge National Lab and Co-founded Bull Run Machine and Welding and Volunteer Enterprises from which he retired. He was a member of the Powell Masonic Lodge, Patron member of the National Rifle Association. He enjoyed his family, his church and friends, woodworking, UT Football, reading, and gardening. He was preceded in death by his parents, Mr. & Mrs. Nelson Poe Herrell. Survived by his dedicated wife of 58 years, Jewell Herrell and his loving children, David C. Herrell II of Falmouth, VA and Janice Herrell of Knoxville. The family will receive friends 6-8 pm Wednesday at Cumberland Baptist Church with the service to follow at 8 pm. Reverends Wade Bibb, Carter Davis and Ronald Russell officiating. Family and friends will meet at 9:15 am Thursday at Highland Memorial Cemetery for a 9:30 am graveside service.
