Britt, Joe Edward of South Knoxville, passed away Sunday, November 22, 2009 at Ft. Sanders Regional Medical Center after a long battle with cancer. He was born January 4, 1929 in Kingston, Tennessee to the late David and Minnie Britt. He served in the Army during the Korean Conflict where he received the Purple Heart and Bronze Star. He was preceded in death by brothers Curtis, J.D., Arthur and Earl Britt; sisters Gladys Meridath and Helen Newhouse. He is survived by his beloved wife of 44 years, Elizabeth (Libby) Finley Britt; son Scott Britt and wife Stacy; daughter Misty Jo Wilcox and husband Mike; grandsons Christian and Taylor Britt; brother Clifford (Tubb) Britt and wife Wilma; many nieces and nephews. He was a beloved husband, father, grandfather and brother. One of the greatest joys in his life was his grandsons, his favorite athletes. The family wishes to thank our friends at Kroger and all our wonderful family, friends and neighbors for all their many acts of kindness. Thank you to special nephews Don Newhouse for our last family reunion, and Dwayne Britt for his calls and visits. Niece Vivian Chance and husband Bill for all our picnics in the mountains. Special friends Floyd and Ida Parrott for their help getting us to doctor’s visits and all the good times we had sitting around your kitchen table eating and talking for hours, and to sister-in-law Anna Belle and husband Junior Davis for all the special dinners. The family will receive friends at Highland South Funeral Home on Tuesday from 5-7 p.m. The service will follow at 7 p.m. in the chapel, with Rev. Joel Tilson officiating.
