BURNETTE, J. W. (JAY) - age of Knoxville, born April 17, 1924, went to be with the Lord on Sunday, December 14, 2003. Member of Marbledale Baptist Church. He was a Veteran and a POW of the United States Army, having served during World War II. Retired from Motor Products 5th Avenue. Preceded in death by: parents, Oscar & Agnes Burnette brothers and sister, Richard, Douglas, and Dorothy Ann Burnette. Survivors: wife of 60 years Bonnie (Bunt) Burnette daughters and son-in-law, Carolyn and Tom Solomon, Marjorie Monday, Knoxville sons and daughters-in-law, Joe and Vickie Burnette, Gerald and Robin Burnette, Knoxville grandchildren: Elizabeth and Richard Bumby, Bill and Lisa Solomon, Keri, Shawn, Elijah, Logan and Carley Burnette great grandchildren, Brandon Bumby, Daniel and Andrew Solomon brothers and sisters-in-law, Shields (Bob) Burnette, Earl and Stella Burnette, Strawberry Plains, Don and Gail Burnette, Seymour, Margaret Woods, Irene Duggan and sister and brother-in-law, Wanda and A.J. Cox, Knoxville and many nieces, nephews and friends. Funeral services 7:00 p.m. Tuesday, Rose Mortuary Broadway Chapel with Rev. Lee Chorn, Rev. John Shaw and Rev. Al Smith officiating. Family and friends will meet at the Tennessee State Veterans Cemetery at 9:15 a.m. Wednesday for graveside services with full military honors conducted by East Tennessee Veterans Honor Guard. Honorary pallbearers will be: nephews and the Senior Adult Men's Sunday School Class, and employees of Motor Products. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Marbledale Baptist Church Building Fund, 5800 Thorngrove Pike, Knoxville, TN 37914. The family will receive friends 5-7:00 p.m. Tuesday at Rose Mortuary Broadway Chapel.
