Willamae “Willy” Glatfelter, 78, of New Freedom, Pa., formerly of Stewartstown and Shrewsbury Township, passed away Friday, January 28, 2011, at the Barbara J. Egan Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Shrewsbury.
Willamae was born Oct. 2, 1932 in Gatlinburg, Tennessee, to the late Isaac Garfield and Lena Mae (Montgomery) King. Her husband was Ralph R. Glatfelter Jr., whom Willy married on April 18, 1959.
Willy attended Barren Hill in Shrewsbury Township and Keeney’s one-room schools in Stewartstown, where she graduated eighth grade.She went to night classes after elementary school and received her G.E.D. and worked for the former Hungerford Packing Company in Shrewsbury and the former Chas. G. Summers, Jr., Inc. Canning Company in New Freedom. She then went to work as a Certified Nursing Assistant for the Barbara J. Egan Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Shrewsbury until her retirement. Willy attended Glenview Christian & Missionary Alliance Church in Glen Rock and was a member of the Turnpike Baptist Church in Shrewsbury. She enjoyed reading and gardening and will always be remembered as a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, great-great-grandmother and friend.
Survivors: Son: Ralph R. Glatfelter III and his wife Lori of New Freedom; Daughter: Kimberly Mae Dunbar of York; Stepdaughters: Jane L. Payne of Hopewell, OH; Joan E. Kerchner and her husband Alan of Glen Rock; Brother: Hugh King and his wife Clara “Tiny” King of Airville; Sister-In-Law: Rose King of Fairfield, CA; three grandchildren; nine step-grandchildren; 10 step-great-grandchildren; 2 step-great-great-grandchildren; and by numerous other nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
In addition to her late parents, Willy was preceded in death by a stepson in-law; Roy Payne, brothers Frank King, Jack King, C. Ray King, Donald King; sisters, Dorothy Weaver and Louise King.

Visitation 11 a.m.-1 p.m. Tuesday, February 1, 2011, at J.J. Hartenstein Mortuary, Inc., 24 N. Second St., New Freedom. Funeral Service: 1 p.m. Tuesday at the mortuary, Pastor Tim Allen officiant. Interment: Susquehanna Memorial Gardens in York.
