Coggins seeks re-election to school board position
Richard Coggins is seeking another term as First District School Board Member for the Cocke County Board of Education.
"It is my desire to seek a third term as First District School Board Member," said Coggins. "I have been a devoted community member my entire life and I want to continue making progress for students and community members in the First District.
"I have been devoted to the Cocke County School Board throughout my eight year tenure. I have worked very hard to accomplish many of the goals set forth by the schools and communities of the first district. It is my goal to work hard and accomplish more for our children in the next term. I attend most all meeting and I vote and express my opinions on the policies that govern our schools to ensure that the students of my district and Cocke County are having their needs met through the educational institutions.
"I have participated inside and out of the first district throughout the years," Coggins continued. "Currently, I am the Head Coach of the Cosby High School Girls Basketball Team. I have been involved in athletics inside and outside the first district for many years. During this time, I have spent countless hours in country stores and gymnasiums listening to the citizens, students, and school employees and gaining ideas on how to make our system better for the children on Cocke County.
Coggins is a lifelong member of the first district. His roots are grounded in the first district. He is a product of Grassy Fork Elementary School and Cosby High School. He is the son of Vinita Coggins and the late Creed Coggins. Coggins is self-employed at Coggins Frame and Body Repair. His wife is Lisa Coggins, daughter of Jack and Ann Smith and is employed by WNPC Radio Station. They have a daughter, Kinley Coggins, who attends school in the Cocke County School System and a son, Josh, who is currently in The United States Army and stationed in Korea.
"As I look back on my eight years as a Cocke County School Board Member, I am very proud of the progress made at Del Rio and Grassy Fork Elementary Schools," Coggins said. "Our building facilities have improved and I am striving to see more improvement to the school facilities. I have been a part of land purchases and have worked with the board to set policies that provide a better and safer school system for our children. It is my desire to see the Cocke County School System use its funding and ability to make our district and county a cost-effective and successful educational setting for everyone.
"I look forward to having the opportunity to serve the First District and Cocke County for another four years. I promise that I will continue to work hard for the continued progress of the First District and the entire Cocke County School System. I would truly appreciate your support and vote on Aug. 5."
