Rogers, Ralph E. “Buddy”, age 73, of Powell, passed away September 29, 2008 at the St. Mary’s Residence Hospice. He was an employee and later became owner of Rogers Trucking Co. Inc., and served as a contract hauler for General Shale Brick Company for over 45 years. He was a 32 year race veteran and was inducted into the Atomic Speedway and Tazewell Raceway Halls of Fame. He won many races and championships all across the southeast. He was also a U.S. Army veteran.
Survivors
Buddy is survived by his wife Sharon Rogers of Powell, son Rick Rogers and U.V., Step-children, Pam Smith and friend Rick Donley, Burney Smith and wife Brandi, Allison Thompson and former wife Barbara Rogers. Pop-Pop to grandchildren: Stephen Rogers, Kristen Trotter and husband Chase, Brandon Rogers, Brock Rogers, Dominic Thompson, Griffen and Spencer Smith; great-grandchildren: Danielle Rogers, Reagan Rogers, Addison Grace Trotter. Special thanks to Dr. Shelly Durbin, and nurse, Peggy, Dr. Susan Huntsinger, and everyone in the Chemo Hut at UT Hospital.
Service
The family will receive friends from 5-8pm Thursday October 2, 2008 at the Lynnhurst-Greenwood Chapel; funeral services will follow at 8pm, officiated by Rev. Richard Niceley and Rev. Fran Vickers. Family and friends will gather at 10am on Friday October 3, 2008 at the funeral home for procession to the Greenwood Cemetery for 10:30am graveside services. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to St. Mary’s Residence Hospice, 7447 Andersonville Pike, Knoxville, TN or the Beaver Creek Cumberland Presbyterian Church, 7225 Old Clinton Pike, Knoxville, TN.
