Lelan E. “Gene” Webb, age 80 of Sevierville, completed his journey in this life Thursday, October 4, 2012.
He was preceded in death by his mother Callie R. Webb; brothers Leonard, Lester, Clarence, John, Cecil, Paul, Miran and Ben; and sister Alice.
Gene was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and great-great-grandfather. He was lovingly known by his family as “Dado”. He was a United States Air Force veteran having served as a Staff Sergeant from 1952-1956. Gene served in Korea as an airplane mechanic and was the recipient of the Korean Service Medal, Good Conduct Medal, National Defense Medal, and the United Nations Service Medal. He retired in 1985 from Randolph Mfg and DeRan in Lubbock, TX, where he had worked as a mechanic for 20 years, afterwards returning home to the mountains of East Tennessee. Gene was an avid golfer.
He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Joanne Townsend Webb; daughters, Barbara Bird and husband Joey of Sevierville; Becky Myers of Sevierville; and Lori McCarter and husband Mark of Knoxville; grandsons, Jeremy Myers of Sevierville, Scott Webb and wife Melissa of Kingston, TN and Chris Kidd and wife Jenna of Aurora, CO; great-grandchildren, Christian, Giovanna, Kaya, Tristan, Caden, Melanie, Ashley Lorance and husband Landon; great-great-granddaughter, Joey Harper; sister, Naomi Hurst and husband Robert of Seymour; sisters-in-law, Jama Webb and Nell Webb of Knoxville, Bobbie Webb and Mardel Webb of Seymour and Rosemary Webb of Sevierville; along with a multitude of nieces and nephews.
The family wishes to acknowledge a special thank you to the nurses and doctors of LeConte Medical Center.
The family will receive friends 5-7 PM Saturday with funeral service to follow at 7 PM in the Chapel of Atchley Funeral Home with Rev. Danny Suttles officiating. Interment 3:30 PM Sunday in Knob Creek Cemetery. Military honors provided by American Legion Post #104. Arrangements by Atchley Funeral Home, Sevierville. (www.atchleyfuneralhome.com)
