Randy Cagle, age 63, of Newport, died early Sunday morning, September 21, 2014, at his home after a bout with cancer. He was a longtime employee of National Bank of Tennessee, and, at the time of his death, an assistant vice-president, public relations manager, and security officer. An avid sportsman, he refereed basketball and baseball from 1972—2006, at which time he became supervisor of the Smoky Mountain Basketball Officials Association. Over the years he also coached and especially enjoyed his time with the Red Raiders midget football team from 1973—1981. Active in the community, he was a member of the Rescue Squad Board of Directors. He also was active in the Sertoma Club, the original Boys Club, and the Chamber of Commerce. He was preceded in death by his parents Carl Cagle and Clydia B. Baxter Mason and Hollis Mason, his beloved Marjorie McMahan, and his sister and brother-in-law Dennie Mason Ottinger and Glenn Ottinger. He is survived by his children, daughter Christie Cagle Carter and husband Flint of Greeneville, TN and son Brent Cagle of Knoxville; their mother Linda Powell of Newport; grandchildren Flint and Lindy Carter of Greeneville; sisters and brothers-in-law Diane Mason (Tim) Rice of Newport and Hollie Mason (Randy) Ramsey of Morristown; nieces and nephews Miranda and Brad Ramsey of Morristown, Kandus Rice (Seth) Childs of Dandridge, and Mason Ottinger (Steve) Miller of Newport; great-nieces and great-nephews Tison and Skylan Johnson, Ryder Miller, and Mia Childs; special cousin Donnie Cagle of Dandridge; his National Bank of Tennessee family, his sports family, the CCHS Class of 1969, and a host of additional cousins and friends. The family will receive friends from 4:00—7:00 p.m. Tuesday, September 23, 2014, at Manes Funeral Home with funeral services following at 7:00 p.m. Randy Penland will deliver the eulogy, and Rev. Scott Gorrell will assist. Burial will be at 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday, September 24, 2014, in Union Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Chip Oury, Jeff ‘Fud’ Ball, John Bailey, Gary Miller, Cecil Gilland, Zan Taylor, and Jimmy Youell. Honorary pallbearers will be Tommy Smith, Robert Valentine, Terry Brockwell, and Reese Thornton. It was Randy’s request that everyone wear “Big Orange” attire for the service. He also requested that memorial gifts be made to Celebrate Life or East Tennessee Children’s Hospital and urged that, in his memory, families go out to eat together and spend special time together.
