Carolyn Ownby Copeland, 80, of 700 South Main Street, Wake Forest, N.C., died Sunday morning, June 4, 2006, at Rex Hospital. She was born in Sevierville, Tennessee, the daughter of the late Carrie Balch Ownby and Walter P. Ownby. She was preceded in death by her husband, Al Copeland; her son, Paul Copeland; and by her brother, Leonard Ownby. Mrs. Copeland was a graduate of Mars Hill College in 1945 and Wake Forest College in 1947. She was a member of Wake Forest Baptist Church, Wake Forest Garden Club, and the Wake Forest Breakfast Club. She was a retired chemist with the N.C. Department of Agriculture Soil Testing Division. Funeral services will be held at 11 o'clock Thursday morning, June 8, 2006, in the Chapel of Bright Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Raleigh Memorial Park. Mrs. Copeland is survived by her daughters, Linda C. Sumner, and her husband, Donnie, of McKinney, Tex., and Claudia C. Shows, and her husband, Buddy, of Raleigh; a son, Carey Copeland, and his wife, Lisa, of Wake Forest; grandchildren, Ryan L. Sumner, of Charlotte; Ashleigh L. Sumner, of California; and Sarah Sumner, of McKinney, Tex. Arrangements by Bright Funeral Home & Cremation Center, Wake Forest, N.C.
