Thomas A. "Tommy" Cutshaw is seeking support in his run for mayor of Newport. He will oppose incumbent Mayor Connie Ball in the Nov. 7 election. "The first thing people have asked me as a mayoral candidate is, 'What goals do you have for the city of Newport?' There is only one way I can answer that question," Cutshaw said. "I will walk all 322 streets of Newport. I will walk door-to-door on every street before Nov. 7 and I will talk not only about my views, but rather listen to yours," he continued. Cutshaw said that he didn't want to go into the election with preconceived notions about what the people want in a mayor. "It is your job as citizens to be open and honest with me as to what you want for the future of Newport. When I have completed this tour, I will have a clear vision of what the people want and I can start planning for our future accordingly." Cutshaw describes himself as the father of three children and a hardworking husband who know what it's like to try to make ends meet. "I grew up being taught that one person can make a difference and that you should stand up for something you love and fight to make it better. "I love Newport and I believe in our city," Cutshaw said. "I believe it takes all of our citizens together as a team to forge future progress in our city."
