Ball prepares for Bar Exam
A local woman who has lived in the Edwina Community most of her life is preparing to take the Bar Exam and continue working for her Newport mentor, Attorney Fred L. Myers Jr. Melissia Ranae Ball, 1488 King Way, is the daughter of Larue Ball and the late Carolyn Eliza Davis Ball.
Ball, who is single, said she is one of five motherless children and, "As the oldest girl, I was raised to work and have worked two and three jobs since reaching maturity. "My family is the most important thing on earth to me," said Ball. Ball said she has worked for Myers for 16 years as Paralegal/Certified Legal Assistant/Office Manager. She is a member of the Advisory Council for Walters State Community College and an adjunct faculty member in the Paralegal Studies Program. "My goal is to help people. I plan to follow in the footsteps of Freddie, my current employer, who has so graciously allowed me to rearrange my work hours in order to attend night law school at the Nashville School of Law in Nashville," she said. "I drove to and from Nashville each week, completing the four-year night law school program in 3 1/2 years, while working 40-60 hours per week here in Newport. "I hope to work for plaintiffs in the areas of personal injury and workers' compensation," said Ball. Ball graduated from the Nashville School of Law on May 27 in the top half of her class with a Doctorate of Jurisprudence. "I received a Bachelor's Degree from Tusculum College, magna cum laude. I sit for the Bar Exam in July," she said. "I hope I pass," she added. Ball said her hobbies include spending quality time with her nieces and nephews. "I am a Certified Rescue Diver and, of course, I love recreational diving," she said, adding that, "Traveling is my vice. "In April, I took my 88-year-young 'granny' to New York City to see the Statue of Liberty. I love my Granny!" said the animated and vivacious Ball. "I enjoy the outdoors and most activities, including horseback riding, rafting, rappelling, camping and four-wheeling. I also enjoy action movies and fiction books."
