Calvin D. Ball, a native of the Edwina Community, is announcing his candidacy for District 1, Post 2 Commissioner of the Cocke County Legislative Body.
“If elected, I would strive to make a difference for the people in the First District. I believe each CLB agenda item should be diligently thought through before casting a vote, taking into consideration how each item will affect the folks in the First District – Del Rio, Grassy Fork, and Edwina.”
Calvin was born and raised in the First District of Cocke County and graduated from Cocke County High School. He is married to April Bryant Ball and has two sons, Cody and Jody Ball, and one step-son, Taylan Hartsell. Ball is the son of the late Jimmy Eugene Ball and Carolyn Bullington Ball, who was raised in the Hartford/Grassy Fork community. Ball and his family are active members of Unity Baptist Church where Billy Ball is pastor.
Ball is employed by International Paper in Morristown and is well-known for the carpentry work her performs.
“I will do this job to the best of my ability if elected. I will not be a yes man to anyone. I will be a hard worker for the first district and then, the county as a whole. I do think our people are tired of high taxes. Our people in this county are taxed with all they can stand or afford. Some of the people in my district are on a fixed income, some with low paying jobs, and some with no job at all. The revenue that our county takes in should keep this county going if the money is managed right.”
Ball believes in the importance and necessity of a good education program for the children of Cocke County. “I will support the fire department. I think they do a good job. I will also try to make sure our convenience centers are kept open six days a week.”
Ball states he would also like to see county water lines extended in the First District.
“I will try my best to make a difference in my district. I will not promise one thing and do another. I was raised to be honest and truthful.”
“I would like to ask everyone in the First District for their vote and support in the August 3rd election.”

Ball Seeks Re-Election to CLB 1st District. Post 2
Calvin David Ball has announced his candidacy for Cocke County Legislative Body in the First District, Post 2.
Ball has lived in the First District for 40 years, attending Bridgeport Elementary School and graduating from Cocke County High School in 1988. He is the son of Carolyn Ball and the late Eugene Ball. He has a long family history of working in the construction business and has spent most of his life in this line of work.
Ball enjoys transferring the skills he learned at a young age from his construction background such as forecasting, making a plan, and then following through to see an end result. Ball says, "During the past four years, I've had the opportunity to meet many folks. I've served on both the General and Landfill Committees, and I'm pleased with what the Landfill Committee has accomplished at our convenience centers."
Ball would like to see water lines extended throughout the county. He also states we need to work together to make our county more attractive for jobs.
Bali's wife, April, works as a Human Resource Specialist at International Paper. Ball is the father of twins Cody and Jody Ball, recent graduates of Cocke County High School and step-father of Taylan Hartsell, 4th grader at Bridgeport Elementary School.
"I appreciate the opportunity to have served the First District for the past four years and I'm looking forward to working with our new mayor as well as CLB members to improve more things for our county," Ball says.
"I ask for your vote and support on August 5th."
