Anna Sue Williams Maples, age 84 of Pigeon Forge, passed away Friday June 23, 2017. She was born May 20, 1933, in Maryville and raised on Glascock Street in Alcoa. After attending Lincoln Memorial University she moved to Sevier County when she married Leroy Maples. They owned and operated Pigeon River Court before establishing Maples Motor Inn in 1972. Sue and Leroy retired in 1995, when sons Joe and Jack Maples and Jack's wife Robin Maples began operating the motel.
Sue was a devoted mother to her children and actively supported their school, church, scouting, sports, and music participation, and encouraged them in every endeavor. Their friends always were welcomed into her home. She continued this love and care throughout her life, especially when situations became difficult. She was a long-time member of the First Baptist Church of Pigeon Forge.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 55 years, Leroy Maples; daughter, Melinda "Mindy" Maples; son, Joe Maples; grandson, Jackson Maples; father, Homer Williams; mother, Ruth Davis Williams Waldrop; step-father, Omer Waldrop; sister, Betty Baker; brothers, Edwin, Bill, and Homer David Williams.
Sue is survived by her son, Jack Edwin Maples and daughter-in-law, Robin Maples; granddaughter, Milly Rosenberg and husband, Logan; great-granddaughter, Wren Rosenberg; sisters, Cathy Wilbanks and husband, Bill of Orlando, FL, and Johnnie Tittle of Maryville; 24 nieces and nephews; and many more extended family members and friends.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to First Baptist Church, Pigeon Forge, 3290 Parkway, Pigeon Forge, TN 37863 or Salvation Army, 806 West Main Street, Sevierville, TN 37862 or the charity of your choice.
There will be a celebration of Sue's life at 5 PM Wednesday, June 28th at Atchley Funeral Home, Sevierville. The family will receive friends from 3 to 5 PM Wednesday.
Interment will be 11 AM Thursday at Pigeon Forge Baptist Cemetery (No formal service will be held.) Online condolences may be made at www.atchleyfuneralhome.com
