Smith, Edith Cate – age 96 of Knoxville passed away to be with the Lord on Tuesday, March 20, 2012, at Heritage Center of Morristown. Edith attended Carson Newman College and taught school at Beech Springs. In her later years, she worked and retired from Millers Department Store. Edith was a long time member of Chilhowee Hills Baptist Church where she and her husband Ernest were active in the Youth Ministry for many years, and where she was also very active in the Women’s WMU group. Preceded in death by husband, Ernest Smith; parents, French and Bertha Cate Elder; and sister, Wanda Elder Neal. Survived by brother-in-law, Marvin Neal; nephew, Tim Neal and wife Diane; great niece, Nikki Wood and husband Byron; great great nephew, Timothy Tyson Wood; and first cousin, Bruce Kennedy and wife Lena. Funeral services will be 7:00 PM Thursday, March 22, 2012, at Bridges Funeral Home. Family and friends will meet at 11:45 AM on Friday at Lynnhurst Cemetery for a 12:00 PM interment.
