EMMERT, HELEN JOHNSON - of Knoxville passed away at her home on Saturday, March 18, 2006. She retired from Palm Beach Company, where she worked as a seamstress for 35 years and was active in the Amalgamated Clothing and Textile Workers Union. After retirement, Helen remained active in her Union. She accepted a position with UNITE, serving the needs of fellow retirees. She was a member of Ebenezer Baptist Church. Helen was preceded in death by husband Howard Emmert and her parents, John Johnson and Rose Russell Johnson, a brother, Henry Johnson and two sisters, Georgia Johnson Merritt and Mary Kate Johnson also preceded her in death. She is survived by her two children, daughter and son-in-law, Janice Emmert Weaver and Frank Weaver of Tampa, FL; and son, Steven DeWitt Emmert of Knoxville. She is also survived by a brother and sister-in-law, Roy and Monnie Johnson of Kodak; a sister, Jane Johnson Fortenberry of Knoxville; a sister-in-law, Mildred Johnson of Kodak; six grandchildren, Stephanie Emmert, Jayna Thomas Phelps, Brandon Thomas, Christie Emmert Arnold, Steven Emmert, and Jonathan Emmert; eight great-grandchildren and twenty-four nieces and nephews. Family and friends are asked to meet at Bridges Funeral Home, 5430 Rutledge Pike in Knoxville on Tuesday, March 21 at 2:00 P.M. to gather for a procession which will travel to Pollard's Cemetery. A graveside service will be held at the cemetery with the Dr. Doug White presiding at 2:30 P.M. Pallbearers will be Brandon Thomas, Steven Emmert, Jonathan Emmert, Ronnie Johnson, Lonnie Fortenberry and Ben Fortenberry. After the service, family and friends are invited to meet at the home of Roy and Monnie Johnson at 222 Huntington Lane in Kodak, where memories of Helen will be shared.
