CHICO, Calif. - Dorothy Carnes Rose Carter, 83, died March 17, 2001, at Enloe Medical Center.
A native of Sevier County, Tenn., she was born Jan. 9, 1918, to James Layfatte and Malinda Jane (Adams) Carnes and had lived in Chico since 1999, coming from Portola, Calif., where she lived since 1980. She also lived in Los Altos, Calif., and Tennessee.
Mrs. Carter was a homemaker. She was a member of the Allegheny Baptist Church, Senior Volunteers in Los Altos and the Portola Hospital Auxiliary and Portola Hospice.
Husbands, Clyde Rose, died in 1983 and Raymond Carter, died in 1999, and one brother and four sisters preceded her in death.
Surviving are sons, Jim Rose of Beaver Dam, Wis., Joe Rose of Louisville, Tenn., and John and Dan Rose, both of Madisonville, Tenn. son, Ted Rose and daughter, Gwynne "Bunny" Taylor, both of Portola daughters, Sharon Rose of Winston-Salem, N.C., Nancy Rose of Chico and Gypsy Rose of Morro Bay, Calif. brother, Charles Carnes of Maryville, Tenn. and 15 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
A graveside funeral is scheduled for 11 a.m. Wednesday at Whispering Pines Cemetery, Grizzly Road and Highway 70, under the direction of Manni Funeral Home, both of Portola.
